The Hearing / Student quick guide

Student quick guide

Choose evidence. Explain whose opportunity changed. Test the explanation.

Just exploringFor class
Two ways in. Just exploring lets you save an unfinished draft whenever you like. For class uses typed responses and blocks pasted text. A completed hearing has the same full analytical requirements in either route. Built-in frames and backup import remain available.

Your six moves

  1. Opening view: read who holds office, who challenges and which opportunities matter. Record a first idea. It stays in the record.
  2. Choose evidence: read the table and cards. Present two supporting cards and a separate complication. Say what that complication makes less certain; open the full cards and source records you use.
  3. Make a connection: name a short target, actor, action and affected option. Start your explanation. Optional target buttons insert frames; fill every bracket.
  4. Take questions: attempt both source-reading questions and record a reasoned decision for each. Keep a warranted claim, narrow a step or change evidence. Name a competing account of one uncertain link and evidence expected to differ.
  5. Test another case: use your target to choose a relevant comparison. Name the period, action, affected option and a difference that tests or bounds the claim.
  6. Finish & save: review the evidence, complication, paragraph and comparison. Complete the writer confirmations, inspect the record and save the format assigned.

Keep the writing focused

Aim for 60-85 words in the main explanation; 50-120 is accepted for completion. Cite both selected supporting card IDs, address the complication and state a relevant source limit. The comparison stays 30-45 words with a valid second-case ID. The target, connection, rival and evidence request have separate fields. A completed checklist does not grade their meaning.

Words you need

Research target
The particular event or opportunity, actor and period you are explaining.
Observation and inference
What a source records, and the further link you propose from it. Keep them distinct.
Complication
An observation, limit or missing step that makes some part of your explanation less certain.
Competing account
A different explanation of the same uncertain link. It need not deny a directly recorded fact.
Source limit
Something the source cannot establish about your particular claim.
Card, table and source IDs
For example, MY3 identifies a card, MY0 a table and MY-B an underlying source. Two cards can draw on the same document; two IDs are not necessarily independent confirmation.

Save and submit

Print / Save as PDF opens the browser print dialog. Save a PDF if that option is available, then upload it to Canvas. Copy grading summary is for Canvas Text Entry; the selected read-only text is also available for manual copying. Submit whichever format your teacher assigns. The .json backup restores editable work in this game. Finishing and downloading do not submit it.

Autosave is local to this browser and website. Keep a backup before changing devices or sites. One shared pair device produces one shared record.
