Comparative politics / Evidence & public power

Hold the Headline

Two reporting slots.
What can you defend?

A headline can travel faster than the evidence. Run a newsroom, question a public-service claim, and spend two reporting slots on an unfinished bridge. Explain why you chose your records, which claims they support or contradict, and what remains unknown. Preserve your first answers, revise your analysis, and leave with a report you can submit. Created by Yoav Duman.

Solo work: estimate 45–55 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion.

Hold the Headline newsroom game cover.

Read a claim. Decide what the evidence carries.

Compare connections with reliable service, investigate possible explanations, and choose two records about an unfinished bridge. Several conclusions can be defensible. Explain what you learned and what your purchases leave open.

Saving and submission: use Save progress for a portable JSON backup. After completing all seven steps, use PDF report or download the printable HTML, check the file is readable, and submit it to Canvas yourself. Browser saves belong to this device and website. Open on its own for more room on a phone.

For instructors

The guide maps reporting purchases to evidence, supportable claims, and remaining uncertainty. It includes a class plan, an example from a different story, a debrief, and criteria for reviewing students’ reasoning.

Edition 2026-10-10.1. Estimate 45–55 minutes solo, plus 10 minutes for discussion. For a 50-minute class, assign steps 1–3 beforehand. Bridgehaven keeps a two-record budget; students justify their purchases, connect evidence to claims, and identify a next question for the unopened topic. Read the guide for the record-to-inference map and assessment criteria. Download the completed PDF or printable HTML, check it is readable, and submit to Canvas yourself. JSON backups resume work; they are not submission reports. Browser saving belongs to this device and website. Compatible older backups retain prior answers and editions, then require the two new reporting explanations and affected rechecks. Completion is not a grade for reasoning.
